• Air; Child (1882-1898)CPB vol V, p422. Child ascribes this air to #247b "Lady Elspat". However,  Bronson (1959-1972)BTT, vol I, p319, and Kinsley (1969)KOB, p697, both indicates that this is incorrect.

Comments:

This is #32 in the Child cannon. His source for the text was the Jamieson-Brown MS.MS-JB, fol. 31. His source for the air was the Abbotsford MS., "Scottish Songs"MS-ABS. Bronson (1959-1972)BTT , vol I, p319, takes his variant of the tune from the Ritson-Tytler-Brown MS.MS-RTB, pp85-90. The singer who was source for both was Mrs Brown, Falkland, Aberdeenshire.

Scott (1880)SBM, has a variant of this (vol III, pp277-281), with slightly different words, and without an air.

Regarding the air, I must admit I have difficulty fitting the words onto it.
