This is #58 in Sharp's Folk Songs
from Somerset series (the third). Sharp and Marson got the tune
from Mr. Robert Pope, of Alcombe, Dunster. The words were "compiled by
Mr. Marson from many sources". Possible sources (as mentioned in the
notes) include; "Bell's Ballads and
Songs of the Peasantry of England, p. 80; Jamieson's Popular Ballads, Vol II, p. 240;
Mr. Brimley Johnson's Popular
British Ballads, Vol III, 39; on broadsheets by Such, Jackson,
and others, and elsewhere".
Regarding the arrangement, I have taken the liberty of removing the
piano accompaniment and only providing the air for one verse.
